Clients with Burnout Report Noticeable Improvement After 1st Session

Feeling exhausted during periods of high stress is a normal reaction and not necessarily a sign of a more serious condition or disease. Chronic stress and a stressful lifestyle, however, can place an individual at risk for becoming burnt out. Individuals with a high achieving personality, for example, can become so passionate about what they do that they unnecessarily pressure themselves to endure exceedingly heavy workloads in order to excel.

Symptoms of burnout fall within three primary clusters:

  • Exhaustion: chronic feelings of fatigue, physically and psychologically drained, emotionally exhausted, tired most days, worn down, depleted, not enough energy to cope or carry out day-to-day tasks, constantly overwhelmed
  • Alienation: find work increasingly stressful and begin to distance themselves, feelings of cynicism regarding work and/or colleagues, pessimism, isolation, detachment, little to no patience for others
  • Reduced Performance: increasingly negative feelings toward daily tasks, difficulty concentrating, lack creativity, engage in escapist behaviors (e.g., excessive drinking)

Burnout most commonly occurs when an individual experiences significant ongoing stress at work, such as feeling as though they are permanently overworked or even under-challenged.1 Burnout does not just come about because of working long hours though. Other kinds of chronic and extreme stress can also lead to burnout. For instance, individuals who must care for a family member or who lack social support may become fatigued and burnt out.

If left unmanaged, feelings of burnout can continue to escalate and lead to serious problems at work or with your physical and mental health. Burnout does not go away on its own. If you believe that you might be experiencing symptoms of burnout or think you might be at risk because of the high degree of stress in your life, then Brain Wellness Spa may be able to help.
